Port Kembla Tender Funerals
At Port Kembla Tender Funerals, we were tasked with transforming a neglected and unusable rear yard into a functional and welcoming space for both staff and clients. The initial state of the site was barren, lacking essential features such as seating or grassed areas, which made it unsuitable for use. Our goal was to create a space that would offer comfort, functionality, and aesthetics, turning the yard into a place that could be enjoyed year-round.

To improve accessibility, we installed a ramp connecting the garage to the main house, ensuring that staff could easily move trolley equipment. The ramp was designed with a gentle slope, non-slip surface, and sturdy handrails, prioritising safety and convenience. Recognising the importance of low-maintenance landscaping, we incorporated an automated irrigation system with soil moisture sensors and weather-based controls to ensure efficient watering and minimal upkeep.
The creation of two seating areas added versatility and charm to the space. A curved concrete seating area was constructed around a central firepit, providing warmth and a gathering point for cooler months. Additionally, a sandstone seating area was built under a pergola, offering a shaded retreat perfect for warmer weather.
The project came with its challenges, particularly the restricted space for material delivery and storage. Limited access through a double-sided gate also required us to use smaller machinery to navigate the tight spaces. Despite these obstacles, we carefully planned deliveries and protected the existing garage and features throughout construction. Ultimately, we succeeded in transforming the once unusable yard into a beautiful, functional space that meets the needs of the staff and clients alike.
