Here at Green by Nature, our passion is rooted in the earth. We believe in the power of nature to inspire, sustain, and teach us. That’s why we are absolutely buzzing with excitement to announce our partnership with Horowhenua Libraries on the fantastic “Read for Bees” summer reading challenge. This wonderful initiative, run by Te Takeretanga o Kura-hau-pō and the wider Horowhenua Libraries network, including Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom in Foxton, is a perfect fusion of two causes close to our hearts: fostering a love for reading in our communities and practicing vital environmental stewardship, or kaitiakitanga

More Than Just a Reading Challenge

“Read for Bees” is a brilliant program that invites people of all ages to dive into the magical world of books over the summer months. But it’s more than just a reading log; it’s a mission. As participants turn pages, they’re not just expanding their minds—they’re helping to build a better future for our local pollinators.

Here’s how this beautiful initiative works:

Read and Log: Every page read contributes to a collective goal, with rewards and spot prizes to be won along the way. Green by Nature are also suppling wild flower seeds for library staff to hand out to challenge participants every time they complete three books.

Sign Up: Community members can easily register using the Beanstack app or by picking up a reading log from their local library branch in Levin, Foxton, or Shannon.

Choose a School: Participants can nominate a local school to support, adding a touch of friendly competition to the challenge.

From Pages to Petals: A Garden for the Winners

This is where our partnership truly blossoms. We believe that to inspire the next generation of environmental guardians, we need to give them hands-on opportunities to connect with nature. As our contribution to this incredible challenge, Green By Nature is proud to be providing a complete pollinator garden to the school community that reads the most pages!

This isn’t just a prize; it’s a living, breathing ecosystem. A pollinator garden is a sanctuary for our precious bees, butterflies, and birds, providing them with the essential habitats they need to thrive. These small but mighty creatures are the unsung heroes of our environment, responsible for pollinating a vast number of the plants that we rely on for food and that form the backbone of our natural landscapes. By creating these gardens, we are directly contributing to the health and resilience of our local environment.

Be a Hero for Our Pollinators

Let’s come together this summer to turn pages into petals and stories into sanctuaries. Let’s read for the bees.
